https://dbader.org/python-tricks ► Get the Python skills you need to contribute to the open-source community and build your portfolio In this video we'll discuss how you can break into open-source as a new Python developer. I got this question from a dbader.org reader and I'm replying to it in this video: ~~ "How do I start to contribute to an open-source project as a relatively new Python developer? I want to build up a portfolio of projects I have worked on and contributed to, and not just a portfolio of my own contrived projects. I'm thinking that evidence shown on GitHub or similar could be useful to a relatively new Python programmer like myself in order to demonstrate credibility." ~~ Contributing to open source projects is a great way to build your programming skills, take par...

How do you contribute to open source? In this video, I'll describe the easiest way to make a simple contribution to an open source project -- without using the command line, a text editor, "forking a repo", or even touching Git outside of Github. I'll also describe what kinds of contributions open source software projects are typically looking for. As an example, I use submitting a student solution to a web development exercise from The Odin Project, a free online curriculum for learning web development with Ruby on Rails. You can find more information about that project at http://theodinproject.com.
